» Vulture Waiting for the Malnutritioned Child to Die, 1994
This one was a complete shocker and raised a debate on the humanness of the
photographing community. It features a vulture waiting for the malnutritioned
child to die. The photographer committed suicide despite being awarded for this
photograph.
Why didn't the person taking this photo try and rush the human child to immediate medical attention!
ReplyDeleteThe men and women who are in these areas to document things like this are told they can not intervene. Kevin Carter who was so devastated and haunted by this photo, years later committed suicide.
DeleteWhy would anyone take a picture of this moment instead of helping. A life is more important than snapping a picture. Humanity is in trouble if we think this is appropriate.
ReplyDeleteAnswering the question "Why would anyone take a picture of this moment instead of helping", and "Why didn't the person taking this photo try and rush the human child to immediate medical attention!"... this child was one of the hundreds of children starving the photographer saw on that field trip. It was an overwhelming situation. By the way, in 1994, US and other "developed" countries, spent billions of dollars on weapons to kill human beings, instead of using that money to help children like this one.

ReplyDeleteStop asking why and read. As Nancy Thomson explained, fairly understandable I may add, no intervention is allowed. If these disturbing pictures weren't taken how else would you know of third world country issues to complain about or support? Was the authors suicide not enough? due to him NOT BEING ALLOWED to help he ended his own life. It is a sad situation all around.
